Over the last few years Mayobridge Golf Club has been host to many fundraising golf events, so i thought i would put together a page on what format is best and typical deals available and the best way to run these type of events.
A great format for this type of event is a four ball scramble. This is where four people make up a team, they all tee off, they pick the best drive, and all play their second shot from that position, they keep picking the best shot till they get the ball in the hole, therefore only one score is recorded at each hole.
It’s a low scoring round usually because if someone in the team hits a bad shot, it’s simply disregarded, there is no hold ups and no looking for lost balls. Its great when the course is full as nearly all fourballs in this format will play at the same speed, this leads to plenty of fun and good craic for all those taking part.
Handicapping is usually best done by adding all 4 handicaps together and dividing by 10, but taking the first decimal point into account. Example 4 team mates handicaps are 9, 14, 18, and 26, gives a total of 67 divided by 10 , gives a team handicap of 6.7 I would recommend that one other stipulation is made , each team mates tee shot must be used at least twice during the round.
When running an event of this kind we would normally leave 10 minutes between each team of 4 teeing off, its possible to get 60 teams, 240 people out between 7am and 5pm during summer. In practice a well supported golf day usually attracts a maximum of 200 golfers so the odd gap is usually left in the time sheet to keep things on track during the day.
Full Day & Half Day Course Hire Costs vary by day of week and range from £250 to £1100, for an exact price phone shane on 07765407930 to discuss your plans and possible dates.
We would also recommend that you include a meal in the deal, a golfers fry can be done from £5 or the players can use credit against any other dish from the full menu. In practice a charity golf day charging players £25 per person including a meal is always seen as good value and will usually be supported well.
Of course the profit from each person playing golf is only part of what can be raised, the other main part is getting sponsors for for each tee box and each green, or simply 3 or 4 sponsors for each tee. If you get 18 tee sponsors at £50 each and 3 of them at each tee that is £2700 profit on top of your players entry fees.
Hopefully this page will assist you in running your golf fundraiser at mayobridge golf club, if you need any other info contact me on 07765407930 …..shane fegan
